The Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work meets The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 in respect of First Aid at Work and is aimed at individuals who intend to develop and gain formal recognition of their knowledge, understanding and skills of first aid at work. First Aid at Work is designed for people who want to receive training in first aid and is especially suited for nominated first aiders in larger or high risk working environments such as construction sites and supermarkets.

Who is this qualification for?
This Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work qualification is for anyone who wants to gain a comprehensive first aid qualification or has been identified as re-quiring First Aid at Work during their employer’s first aid risk assessment.

Course Length
3 days.

Assessment
A written and oral exam and practical assessment.

Certification
Successful candidates will receive a Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work valid for 3 years.

The role and responsibilities of a first aider

  • Identifying the role and responsibilities of a first aider
  • Describing how to minimise the risk of infection to self and others
  • Identifying the need for establishing consent to provide first aid
  • Completing an accident report form
  • Identifying the first aid equipment that should be available in a workplace
  • Describing the safe use of first aid equipment

Assessing an incident

  • Conducting a scene survey
  • Conducting a primary survey of a casualty
  • When to call for help

Managing an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally

  • Assessing a casualty’s level of consciousness
  • Opening a casualty’s airway and check breathing
  • Why it is important to place an unconscious casualty into the recovery position
  • Placing an unresponsive casualty in the recovery position
  • Managing a casualty who is in seizure

Managing an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally

  • Recognising the need to commence Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • Demonstrating Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation using a manikin

Recognising and assisting a casualty who is choking

Identifying a casualty with a
